Want to help?
Depending on your interests, time available and skills, there is plenty that you could do to help:
There are plenty of opportunities to help support us. For example, we’d love to hear from you if you can:
- offer occasional driving to help take families to events
- help with events (catering, set-up, transport, publicity, etc) – see current vacancy details!
- offer volunteering placements for local refugees/asylum-seekers, to help them build skills, practise their English and meet people
- offer creative ideas for promoting and helping to achieve our objectives.
The Syrian families in Ripon are encouraged to be as independent as possible, so there isn’t always a lot to be done directly with them. However, helping with events will often bring you into contact with the families anyway!
Hosting a refugee in your home for a period
This can be a very fulfilling and mutually rewarding thing to do (there is direct experience of this within Ripon City of Sanctuary, so please get in touch if you have any questions). The following organisations can carefully match you with person/s who might be right for your household – and vice versa:
Fundraising or donating
Our funds tend to be spent on activities which promote our objectives (such as printed materials) or providing direct support to refugees (for example, covering the costs of a trip or social). If you would like to support us, please contact us or you can make a donation/pay in funds raised to our account with Skipton Building Society, either at a bank or online:
Sort code – 20-78-42

Donating or collecting clothing
We collect good-quality adults’ and children’s clothing to go to centres in Hull and Wakefield, where they are much in demand. Visit our page about donations for refugees and asylum-seekers.
