Nicola David chair ripon city Sanctuary

Nicola David
Chair

Nicola’s day-job is in marketing. She spent a year working for a British-Syrian aid agency and has several years’ experience alongside around 20 resettled refugee families. She is very slowly learning Arabic.

Cathie Rutter, Ripon City of Sanctuary

Treasurer

Cathie worked in admin and finance before retiring. She and her husband recently spent two years with CMS working with a theological college in Northern Uganda.

Family Support Lead

Chris is our link to the refugee families in Ripon. He offers a wide range of support while promoting their independence. He’s learning Arabic in his spare time, too. Supported by Rosemary McEvoy.

Eden-Maia Shackleton

Secretary

Eden’s home base is Ripon but she’s currently studying Classics at the University of Cambridge. She plans to build a career in the third sector, especially humanitarian issues.

Clothing Collections Lead

John’s background is in academia. He did 2 years’ VSO in Eritrea, spent years alongside asylum-seekers in Southampton, and was a national City of Sanctuary trustee. Supported by Graham Pentelow.

Campaigns Lead

Sarah co-ordinates the campaigns we get involved with. She has previously worked for the UN and USAID. She holds a paid regional role with national City of Sanctuary.

Schools Lead

Yvonne is a teacher and Education Officer at Ripon Cathedral. She helps schools to learn, embed and share an understanding of what it’s like to be a refugee.
