Get involved with Community Sponsorship

There are 3 ways to support our Community Sponsorship project and help bring a refugee family to Ripon:

1 – JOIN

Our steering committee offers a wide range of roles: see Section 1 below.

2 – HELP

Volunteering might mean decorating, finding an allotment… anything!

3 – GIVE

We must raise a minimum sum before we can bring a family here.

1 – Join the steering group

Let us know if any of these roles has your name all over it! Aside from the ESOL role, we’re not necessarily looking for experience; we firmly believe that anyone can learn anything. (* means ‘position filled’.)

Treasurer*

Keeping an eye on funding and costs*

Fundraising

Not to do it all, but to plan and inspire!

ESOL

Language is the key that unlocks life

Housing

Identifying a rental property

Furnishing

Equipping a cosy, practical home

Benefits

Sorting out the welfare payments

Schools

Finding places and staying in touch

Employability

Finding work/
volunteering

Interpreting

Translation and interpreting

Comms*

Keeping everyone informed

2 – Help by volunteering

We’ll need additional support on most of the above roles, but the commitment won’t be as long-term. So you might be asked to give a family a lift, source a microwave or book a venue. In addition, you might enjoy:

Conversation

Helping the family practise

Trips out

Getting out and about for fun

Practicalities

From storing a sofa to minor repairs

Shopping

Helping them get what they need

2 – Give to bring the family here

The Home Office requires every Community Sponsorship group to raise £9,000 to cover a set of essential resettlement costs.

One-off donations

Donate a one-off sum

Regular
giving

Donate monthly for 1 or 2 years
